The Big Scare !

Every now and again Mr.CC goes for a Medical check up, but because his
Doctor was away on leave, he was refered to a stand in Doctor.
The man gave Mr.CC a thorough check up and when he took an X-Ray
of the lungs, a scar was noticed on the right lung.
Almost immediately Mr. CC was sent to the Universitätsspital for
further tests.
Girl-child made immediate arrangements to spend the days here with
me, while her Dad spent 4 days in Hospital.
This has been the most alarming and frightening 4 days I've experienced
in a very long time.
A series of tests was made, as well as a PET scan (Positron Emission Tomography)
a sample was also taken of the scar.
While all of this was done, girl-child and I was sitting tight waiting for
the results of the sample analysis, and results of all the tests they've done
since he went into hospital.
What a week! What a nightmare!
It was explained to us that such a scar could be caused by Tuberculosis,
Double pneumonia or by a heavy blow in the chest area (provided the scar
is harmless)
Mr.CC has never been treated for any of the two illnesses, however, he was
attacked, robbed and badly injured some years ago in South Africa - on
two ocassions, but until now, he's never been X-Rayed!
Every day girl-child and I payed our patient a visit in hospital, we spent the
days living in fear whilst waiting for the test results.
On the 4th and last day of Mr. CC,s stay in hospital, we finally received the good
news that all tests are negative.
The *scar* is nothing serious, only the result of the injury caused by the
attackers.
We are all relieved that everything worked out smoothly, but amazed that
a small scar can be the cause of such a big scare !

I am so thankful that everything came out okay. I know the fear you went through, and it is sooooooo stressful. I guess it is best to know, but sometimes you wonder if they didn't find stuff like that if it would be better. Of course if it wasn't okay, you would want to be able to deal with it early. Ah medicine, a marvel, but sometimes I wonder if ignorance is bliss........

Nea: You've said it! At first we were pretty cheesed off about the fuss and the many tests, (to say the least) But we're happy it's all over now.

Tom: To think what pandemonium an old scar caused here....!

Alan: AMEN to that!!!

Tina: I know what you mean, I get myself in a puff when he gets a cold - even though he gets less colds than I do!!
My daughter's a clown, and she'll have no peace before she doesn't bring a smile to your face, it was hard to laugh about anything with worries on your mind - but she won!

This brings home to me how nice it is to have loved ones around when things aren't going well. Glad it all turned out ok though.
