The Birthday Girl

It's hard to believe that my little West Highlander Terrier turned
5 years old today.
It seems like only yesterday when we fetched her from the
dog breeder in Fribourg in Switzerland, a well known area for
ski-ing and the best Gruyère cheese.
For more info and pics, see this: http://www.villastjean.com/fribourg/fribourg.htm
She was a tiny bundle of white fluff.
Before leaving Fribourg to take our new member of the
family back home, I placed her into a basket, and she layed on a soft
and *snuggy* baby blanket. I remember the day clearly - it was a
bitter cold Sunday morning, nothing compared to today, which is
a mild and rather warm and pleasant day.
Without a care in the world she slept all the way back to her new home.
Because of her snow white fur, we named her Fuji!
Since the very first day she came to live with us, she played
Queen of the castle - she just knew she was home - to rule on!!
Unfortunately she's not having such a great day today, because
I wanted to treat her to a tiny piece of Roast Chicken (as a birthday treat
and I know how much she loves the taste of the good bird)
Overlooking the fact that she's got a finicky stomach, the treat backfired
on us - once again, and now we're both paying the price for indulging
in the good stuff.
She's feeling sick - on her birthday, AND I,m feeling guilty for
doing what I did!

Poor dogs, the get temperamental stomach's but still they will eat just about anything. The only times my dog has been sick, I did it. Gave him canned dog food once, the really cheap stuff, BOY was I sorry.......won't tell you what happened to the inside of my van...haha

Hope your little bundle of fluff is feeling better tomorrow.

Five years sure goes by fast doesn't it.....

Nea, being the dog lover I am, this is a puzzle to me and also the first dog with such a delicate stomach, we had more than one fluff ball raoming around our garden in SA, can't eat this or can't eat that was Alien to all of them.
Fuji's tum will not even tolerate canned food, I CAN imagine what the inside of your van looked like, haahaaha! YUCK!!

Bazza, it usually takes a day for her to be bushy tailed again.
Btw, I never read or watch TV whilst eating, (got caught too many times before) nothing as gross as seeing an unpleasant scene
AND you've got your mouth full, haahaha!!!

You reminded me of the day we fetched our baby boy from the airport. He was flown down from Johannesburg in a crate big enough to fit two cats in. Now there is now way in the world he will fit in the crate.

I remember standing at the courier company watching for the plane to land. And then waiting for the truck to come in through the gate and be offloaded.

Inside this then enormous crate was this tiny little blob of chocolate with big paws and floppy ears.

I pulled him out the crate, into my arms and hugged and cuddled him. Then we fed him and gave him water. He slept on my lap the whole way home, he never whined once during the night. He just knew he was safe... he was home.

It was his birthday on 19th August, he is three years old. He weighs a ton now and there is now way I can pick him up because he is just too big. There are photies on my Flickr if you want to take a looksie.

I hope Fuji feels better soon. And mom, don't feel bad. Children always feel sick after the birthday party.

Great photo's, my mate has a similar breed of dog I think, I don't usually like small dogs, apart from Jack Russells and Manchester Terriers, but your little fluffball/dog has a very cute little face.

Katt, Aaaaah, you just gotta love these four legged creatures, what would life be without 'em eh?!!

Kevin; I have a confession to make, I love all animals, BUT, UHM,
I am petrified of Rottweilers, there I,ve said it - I actually make a U-TURN when I approach one, BUT I LOVE YOUR ROTTWEILLER PUPPIES!!!!!

I had a beautiful little Lhasa Apso named Tawnee who also had a delicate tummy. Some of the smaller doggies seem to be that way. When she had an upset tummy we would give her half a, I think it was a pepsid tablet, the vet ok'd it.
Happy birthday to sweet little fuji.

By the way, NOW my dog is ill. But I think someone kicked him in the side.......can't imagine who thought. He wouldn't come up on the porch last night, it was like he was afraid, I had to go down and bring him up. Once I got him on the leash, he came right up, he was walking okay, but he acts like his side hurts. And he doesn't move now, he just lays. I hand fed him today, and brushed him, and everytime I would get near this one spot on his side, he would flinch. I wonder if he went up on someones porch last night and they hit him. He is very friendly. Well he was a little better today.

Hope tomorrow Fugi is her old self, and Lou also. I always worry about the furry friends, they can't tell you what is wrong, it is so frustrating.

I'm just catching up on your posts, she is beautiful and I'm pleased to see she was better soon. Our little Lottie will eat the most disgusting things we find on our walks out and quite often leaves the evidence round the house later. But you love them anyway.
